Building Bandwidth- Outdoor Oil on Canvas Board

Its been more than 2 years since I have been wanting to paint the reflections of Renaissance hotel and surrounding buildings on Powai lake. I finally did it last sunday on my outdoor sketching exercise. Do I call it a sketch or a painting? Well it started out as a sketch but I guess now after finishing touches, I can safely call it a painting!Its my first Oil En Plein Air!

Garden House -Outdoor Sketching

An Oil pastel Sketch done on site at the Powai Joggers park. Outdoor sketching is fun but challenging as you  have to work against the time and light ( and also curious onlookers!!!!).

Oil pastels arent as easy as I thought. I have to do a few more to get the hang of them, as they suit my hard, rough,strokes. I feel oil pastels are best for my fast, brisk strokes., unlike other media requiring delicate strokes.    

Fountain- Outdoor sketching

Fountain at the middle of Powai Jogger's park (Mumbai).Tried to capture the reflections , which of course would have been better done with water colours. It was a beautiful morning exercise, done with my sketch group.

Hiranandani Silhouette- Outdoor Sketching

The silhouette of the Hiranandani buildings as viewed from the Powai Jogger's park in the morning at around 9. 30 am.The view was beginning to get clearer by the minute as the sun was getting stronger.I had to rush through this as the park was closing and the security gusrd was breathing down my back!This is an output of this morning's sketching exercise done with my sketch group.Done with water colour pencils. 

Forest Clump- anywhere in the forest

This is a water colour sketch on hand made paper.I tried to juxtapose warm and cool colours here and also tried blending of clours. Since I am still focused on shadows( Will do more focused work on this when I take out time), I also worked out some shadows on the house.
My photos are always crooked. I would like to blame my phone camera but the truth is I am a very bad photographer!   

Gajra - Water Colour Sketch on hand made paper

This is a quick water colour sketch of a Jasmine Gajra ( Indian word for bunch of flowers worn in hair). I got them last evening and wanted to paint them . Wish I could do an oil but I do not have the time as the flowers would wither away and decided to do a quick morning sketch. As I painted this, the sweet smell of the flowers added to the beauty of the moment. I never thought about it before but Gajras can really make very interesting still life subjects! 

Anywhere- In rural Maharashtra -Water Colour on paper

This is a water colour which "I treated" like an oil. I walked out on the painting and left it half done for more than a month, only to return back to it today and finish it. This happened merely due to other exigencies, after which I got into static painting inertia for somedays. I finally completed it. The main focus in this is the shadows. I am trying this kind of thing for the first time.I have been fascinated by water colour shadows of late and plan to try out few more , which I shall do with more focus and concentration. This painting is an inspiration from a reference snap clicked by a friend of mine, done after due consent from him.

I think am back in the mood. I have put my oil brushes to wash and clean. Want to do an oil soon.
